Character is the set of abilities required to meet the demands of reality. The Character Formation Profile maps your four character structures, the ten capacities inside them, the growth level you have reached in each, and the hiding patterns that once protected you.
Each structure was designed to be built in relationship, early in life, in an environment of grace, truth, and time. Wherever the building was interrupted, it can be resumed. That is the whole premise of this work.
Need-based relationships, regulated emotions, a connected sense of self.
A self with edges: the power to say no, and a unique identity to say yes from.
Holding the good and the bad in one picture, in life and in your inner voice.
An equal voice, real competence, integrated sexuality, and purpose bigger than you.
When overwhelming experiences met unwilled aloneness, parts of you learned to hide. Those hiding patterns were resilient, adaptive, even brilliant at the time. They kept you safe. They also quietly run your relationships until they are seen. The Profile names your patterns kindly, shows what each one has been protecting, and points to the first practice of coming out of hiding.
115 short items, about 20 minutes. Most of us err on the generous side about ourselves, so stay with what is real. Go with your first gut response.
Your wheel fills in: a growth level for all ten capacities, each structure's ladder with your rung marked, and your hiding patterns named with grace.
Every growing edge comes with a grace, truth, and time plan: who to let in, what to practice, and the rhythm to repeat it in.
The four structures come from the character work of Dr. John Townsend and Dr. Sharon Makin. The hiding patterns are adapted from Townsend's Hiding From Love. Both were revised and extended into the Character Formation Coaching model, a Christian mind and body coaching approach grounded in attachment research, interpersonal neurobiology, and the conviction that people grow in environments of grace, truth, and time.
God sets the lonely in families; he leads out the prisoners with singing.Psalm 68:6
